Description

The Orion Nebula (M42) is one of the most famous – and (in my opinion) beautiful - of all celestial objects. At a distance of 1344 light years, it is one of the brightest nebulae in the night sky, and visible to the naked eye (even from more light polluted suburban locations) as the middle “star” in the “sword” of Orion. It is a favourite target for visual observation as well as photography, with the nebulosity and central open star cluster (called “The Trapezium”) clearly seen using even a small telescope.

My rendition of this magnificent target was captured on 19 Dec 2023, using a Sharpstar 13028HNT telescope, QHY533C camera, Optolong UV-IR filter, and Skywatcher HEQ5 tracking mount, with a total exposure time of approximately 2 hours. Processed with PixInsight 1.8.9
